The origin of the shower bomb

After the initial strategy meeting, it was clear that the product had to be as easy to use as a bath additive. Turn on the shower, place the shower bomb on the bottom of the tub, and shower. The tablet dissolves gently, releasing a pleasant fragrance with natural essential oils, without perfuming the skin or hair.

How did the idea come about?

The idea for the first shower additive actually came to Thomas Grüner while showering during a business trip, back when he was working as a management consultant and frequently stayed in hotels. After long workdays, the hotel spa area was often already closed. Since he's not a fan of baths, he always took long showers to relax. What was still missing, however, was the right feel-good atmosphere.

So he decided to sprinkle the Swiss pine essential oil he had brought for a sauna infusion into the shower. The scent was wonderful, but it also dissipated very quickly. Then he had an idea: to press the oil into a tablet that, placed on the shower floor, would gradually release the aroma.

During a long evening at a Viennese wine tavern with his longtime friend, Thomas Schloss, the two couldn't shake the thought: there are countless fragrant bath additives, from whirlpool baths to bath bombs. However, they weren't aware of a single shower additive, even though everyone showers and rain showers are increasingly replacing the bathtub as a private retreat for relaxation.

From DIY recipes to the finished product

It all started with classic garage-style DIY recipes from the internet. Aside from a clogged drain and lots of funny photos, not much came of it. The products ordered from the USA were also far from satisfactory, as the scents were too weak and the fragrances too chemical.

They quickly realized that significant development work was needed, which would entail corresponding costs. This was the point at which the project became a reality and Thomas & Thomas decided to implement it.

After creating a business plan, the project financing began. Savings and two research grants were used to finance the 18-month development phase, culminating in the prototype series. The patented formula for the WALTZ 7 shower bomb was developed in collaboration with, among others, the Technical University of Dortmund and French perfumers.

Since then, over 10 scented shower bombs have been developed, and the number keeps growing. Thomas & Thomas are currently working on a new product – we can't wait to see what they come up with.

Fragrant greetings,

Yours, Marie
